"Battlefields"
(Eady)
There's a war that's raging, I can see it coming over the hill
The flags are waving and the generals are all standing still
Mothers are at home crying, tying ribbons around the trees
The fathers all stand strong until it's time for them to bow down on there knees
Well I stand without a rifle, I was sent here to write down what I see
But the war's not just this battlefield, it's everywhere these soldiers cannot be
There's a thousand people here and ten thousand who are fighting just the same
For every one who falls there are ten more who are left to their name
The first line starts to fall as the cannons don't show mercy for the brave
Both sides fight for justice but they all want their stories to be saved
Each men makes the many and many is the number on the ground
When the rifles are all empty may the glory be enough to go around
Well I walk across this battlefield long after the final soldier falls
I look at the faces and I wish I could remember them all
There's a letter in the pocket of a kid who looks barely seventeen
But his words cannot be read for the red of the blood that he bleeds
So I write down his name and the company for which he fought and died
By the time I get back home, the country has moved on to mend its pride
I go to where that soldier lived, the eyes of his mother cover me
So many people died that day and they took the soul of this family
So many people died that day and they took the souls of the families
